The most popular carbine version of the Gew 98 rifle (See FTA 148) of World War One. Its handy size and reliability made this a favourite with the early Storm Troopers and it also saw use at the start of the Second World War. This carbine is dated 1917. Marked only Kar98, the 'a' designation was introduced in the 1920s when the 'b' variant and subsequently the 'k' variant were introduced.
