After WW1 the British Army decided that the .455 revolver was too heavy and after tests decided upon the use of the .38 cartridge. Webley were already working on a design (which would become the MkIV). This project was taken over by RSAF in 1927 and resulted in the Enfield no 2 Mk1 In 1932. Officially replaced in 1938 by the No2 Mk1* (168) The date on this example suggests it was one of the last Mk1s made
