Short sword as issued in addition to a bayonet to French, and French Allied soldiers during the Napleonic period. Pattern is of Republican year IX or 1801. It is not known whether this ir an original or reproduction item, reproductions are common, also no period French issue markings are evident. However the makers name corresponds with a manufacturer, Barisoni, of Milan supplying equivalent pattern equipment to Italian forces at that period.
