A cavalry carbine version of the Carcano M1891 rifle (FTA 138) was introduced in 1891. This continued to be manufactured until 1945, changing initially to 7.35mm cal as the M1938, then reverting to 6.5mm (as here) as the M1891/38. Folding permanent bayonet is a feature of the Cav carbine version of this weapon.
