Based on the Mauser action the Type 38 was one of two principal rifles used by the Japanese army from 1905 until the end of World War Two. This rifle was also extensively used in China and Korea in the early 1930s. The chrysanthemum 'Mon' on the receiver is rare as these were typically filed off prior to surrender to avoid shame on the Emperor (See FTA 156 and 157).
