Upon independence after the First World War Finland had large stocks of the Russian M19891 Mosin-Nagant rifle. This was adopted as the national weapon and imported from a number of sources. During the Winter War starting in 1939 many of these weapons were reconditioned and re-used with freshly manufactured components. This example is of Finnish manufacture, with VKTbreech stampings and the Finish style sling swivels rather than the 'dog-collar' slots of the Russian weapon.
