This weapon is superficially similar to the French Cavalry Carbine of An IX (1811). However it lacks the sidebar for attachment to a cartouche belt, some parts are steel rather than brass, and crucially, the weapon apears to have a rifled barrel. Versions of the 1811 carbine were issued to infantry and naval units, and after 1815 a number were used by Gendarmerie forces in various countries. This weapon may be one of these. Barrel appears to bear a Liege proofmark.
