Weapon designed in the 1920s and introduced by Rheinmetall in 1932 to equip aircraft. Used by German Luflwaffe in flexible mounts in aircraft up until 1941 when replaced by larger calibre weapons. Magazine arrangement is unusual as it feeds simultaneously from both sides of the weapon in order not to throw out balance. Also used later with bipod and stock as ground weapon,
