Updated version of the Gew 98 and Kar 98a Mauser action rifles. (See FTA 147, 148) introduced in 1935. The standard rifle of the German army in the Second World War and since used by many other nations to present day. Well made, reliable and accurate . Many captured German Kar 98 were reconditioned in post-war Yugoslavia. This is one example. Original German manufacturing stamps have been ground off and replaced with Yugoslav markings, however Waffenampt acceptance stamps remain on Rhside below the sight. The work was done at the Zavodi Crvena Zastava Red Banner Works. Zastava was known as "Preduzece 44"--meaning Enterprise 44, from 1945-52.
