Modern sporting copy of 1852 pattern Sharps rifle Used a paper cartridge, the end of which was sliced open as breech was closed. Designed in 1848 the Sharps was used by both sides in the American Civil War and very popular in the West. Credited with killing more buffalo than any other rifle. Tested by the British Army the troops issued with the Sharps rifle became known as ‘Sharpshooters’.
