Adopted by the Japanese army in 1937 as its standard pistol the modified version has a large trigger guard to allow use with heavily gloved hands and an additional magazine spring catch (missing on this example). Its breech-lock is similar to the Italian Glisenti but suffered from a weak striker spring. Not well made by European standards.
