The Ortgies pistol was designed and initially produced by Heinrich Ortgies. Deutsche Werke purchased the rights to the Ortgies pistol in 1921 and continued to produce the Ortgies until the late 1920's. This specific pistol was produced after Deutsche Werke took over production (note the manufacturer's name and address on the slide). Also note the distinctive cat medallion inset in the left grip walnut panel.
