Biography:

1. Samuel Graves had been engaged as a Punt Man in the early months of 1804, earning 2/-d per day. At the 30th January 1805, he had one year's service (Supply 5/224 dated the 30th January 1805) and this was still the case in June 1807 (Supply 5/226). 2. Supply 5/227 dated the 23rd August 1808, recorded that Mr. Graves was then a Millman earning 2/3d. per day, and "allowed 6d per night when on duty." 3. Supply 5/228 dated the 1st September 1810, confirmed he was still a Millman who was paid 2/3d per day, and allowed 6d when on night duty. 4. List of Employees dated the 29th August 1812 recorded that Mr. Graves was still a Millman, but that he now earned 3/-d per day, in addition to which, he was allowed 6d. per night when on duty (Supply 5/229). 5. Graves was still a Millman on the 13th February 1814, with the same rate of pay and an additional 6d per night when on duty (Supply 5/230).
