Biography:
1. John Gayler was first employed as a Labourer in the Engineers' Department on the 9th September 1815, earning 2/8d per day (WO54/516 dated the 19th February 1816). This document also stated that he was a 36-year-old married man living in Waltham Abbey, with no children.
